IED is Europe’s largest network of schools specializing in Art and Design. Founded in Milan in 1966, it has 11 campuses across three countries — Italy, Spain and Brazil — as well as a cultural hub in New York.
IED combines the richness of Italy’s cultural heritage with a global vision and strong ties to the local contexts in which it operates. Its educational model brings together critical thinking, experimentation and a transdisciplinary approach, enabling students to address real-world challenges and respond to contemporary needs. In 2022, IED became a Benefit Corporation, formally committing to generating a positive impact on society and the planet.
In line with the mission of social benefit pursued by the Francesco Morelli Foundation — the owner and custodian of IED’s moral heritage — the European Institute of Design is committed to generating shared value and promoting social inclusion through education. Today, IED and the Foundation operate within a circular system that feeds knowledge back into the school itself and the wider community, following a model that fosters social change and transformation.
IED can count on a faculty of more than 3,000 professionals, all active in their respective fields, as well as a network of companies, cultural institutions and more than 170 academic partnerships worldwide. Its educational offering includes Undergraduate programmes (First-Level Academic Diploma – DAPL, Título de Grado en Enseñanzas Artísticas Superiores de Diseño – TGEA, Diploma de Bacharelado, Bachelor of Arts Hons – BA Hons, Ciclo Formativo de Grado Superior, First-Level Academic Diploma in Cultural Heritage Conservation and Restoration, and IED Diploma), Postgraduate programmes (Second-Level Academic Diploma – DASL, First-Level Master’s Degrees, IED Master’s programmes, Postgraduate programmes, Pós-Graduação and PhD programmes), as well as Lifelong Learning courses.
