Creating and caring for new spaces of life and relationship.
Altrimodi is a social enterprise founded in 2017 from a project by its founders Sara Negarville and Carlo Giani. It operates on a metropolitan and regional scale and was an Innovative Start-up with a Social Purpose from 2018 to 2022. It promotes and carries out projects of collective interest that combine social goals, economic self-sustainability and the (re)use of assets as community resources. Its mission developed, from its founding in 2017, out of the inter-institutional project M.O.I. – Migranti un’opportunità di inclusione (Migrants, an Opportunity for Inclusion), dedicated to the social inclusion of people who had left the former Olympic Village. The project was supported, among others, by the City of Turin and the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation, as well as by the Archdiocese, alongside which Altrimodi carries out projects of welcome and social emancipation. Since its beginnings, Altrimodi has also contributed to building the infrastructure of the City of Turin’s Social Inclusion Plan, launched in 2018.
Our main activities
The social enterprise carries out housing projects, educational pathways for disadvantaged groups, with particular attention to young people, and actions for innovation and the development of social entrepreneurship. We promote pathways out of social, educational and employment marginalization in the urban area of Turin.
We work along three axes:
Housing: transitional housing solutions for individuals and families in housing emergencies, personalized pathways to foster autonomy, and also actions to redevelop disused buildings for social purposes. We offer socio-residential spaces dedicated to young adults.
Educational empowerment: integrated educational projects for children and families in vulnerable situations, support for parenting and relational wellbeing, workshops in schools, and activities in synergy with local organizations.
Training and employment: guidance for job entry or re-entry, job-orientation workshops with CPIA 2 of Turin, training in the agri-food sector, and partnerships with companies and employment agencies.
Our approach
We build community welfare systems founded on participation, reciprocity and civic engagement. Our keywords are wellbeing, sustainability, inclusion, urban regeneration and innovation: Altrimodi is a permanent laboratory in the fields of tackling vulnerability and marginalization. Our interventions aim to create and support processes of personal growth, equal opportunities and social mobility, involving for-profit organizations as well for solidarity purposes, and adopting a multidimensional and multi-professional approach.
We work in networks
To design and test our interventions, we collaborate with public and private bodies, businesses, foundations and third-sector organizations, and we are among the founding members of the Rete Asilo e Rifugio Torino (Turin Asylum and Refuge Network). Among our main partners is the City of Turin, with which we share co-programming and co-design pathways within the framework of shared administration.
Some of our most recent projects
Alongside our main activities, we have developed, along the lines indicated, a number of projects that are significant for us as part of an evolving path, and which we present in the linked project sheets.
AltreCase, an experimental project of solidarity-based youth co-housing. The AltreCase are living environments attentive to the values of solidarity, reciprocity, civic engagement and intercultural exchange, dedicated to young men and women.
Atelier Integrato, a program that promotes a sustainable food culture and integrates open innovation, production and job inclusion, training and awareness-raising, adopting an innovative approach through edutainment tools and artificial intelligence.
Portineria di comunità (Community Concierge), an intervention model featuring a multi-service cargo bike that travels through the Aurora and Barriera di Milano neighborhoods, bringing listening, guidance, care activities, and cultural and sports activities directly to the places where new generations and young families live.
Our team
The people who work at Altrimodi are a strategic resource: as of 31 December 2025, the team consists of 15 employees, 12 of whom are women. We invest in continuous training and supervision pathways, in transparency, and in involving staff in the progress of activities and in strategy. The work teams have broad autonomy in the practical definition of social interventions and in relations with institutional contacts and the local network.
Some figures from 2025
Social inclusion and welcome projects involved over 230 people, 147 of whom were hosted in housing for emergency and autonomy; 650 children took part in workshops in schools; 80 students were supported in job-orientation workshops at CPIA 2.
