ODV Società di San Vincenzo De Paoli – Consiglio Centrale di Torino is a volunteer organization that has been active in the Turin area since 1850, working to combat various forms of poverty and social exclusion.
Deeply rooted in the local community through an extensive network of groups (known as Conferences), our organization supports individuals and families experiencing economic and social vulnerability, regardless of their religious beliefs or geographic origin.
Our mission is to address the root causes of poverty and social exclusion by promoting pathways of support and empowerment that uphold the full dignity of every person.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s approach is based on direct, personalized relationships with the people it serves. This is achieved through home visits and community-based outreach initiatives.
Our activities include:
- Financial assistance (direct payment of rent, utility bills, healthcare expenses, educational costs, sports activities, etc.)
- Distribution of essential goods (food, clothing, furniture, household appliances)
- Educational support and assistance with study, training, and lifelong learning
- Guidance and support for social and employment inclusion
- Reintegration support for individuals following incarceration
Educational poverty and economic poverty reinforce one another. For this reason, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul has intensified its financial support programs for families, with a particular focus on promoting inclusion and participation through education, from primary school to university. The objective is clear: to prevent new forms of social marginalization.
In this area, the organization supports students facing financial hardship through dedicated contributions toward key educational expenses, including university tuition fees, rent and food costs for students living away from home, public transportation passes, textbooks, and the technological equipment necessary for study.
Among its many initiatives, Project Abito stands out. It is a social clothing store designed like a retail shop, where people experiencing hardship can freely choose donated clothing in a welcoming and respectful environment. Project Abito represents an evolution of traditional clothing distribution services by combining social inclusion, environmental sustainability, and community engagement through the reuse and regeneration of garments.
