GIIN Survey on the State of Impact Investing in 2025
GIIN is the leading industry organization for impact investing, dedicated to increasing its scale and effectiveness worldwide. The latest market analysis, titled “State of the Market 2025: Trends, Performance and Allocations”, is now available.
The report is part of the GIIN’s 2025 Market Intelligence Series and is based on data from the Impact Investor Survey 2025, which collected insights from 429 organizations across 54 countries. As a global leader in impact investing, the Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN) conducts and publishes public research, providing investors with the information they need to navigate an evolving market.
This year’s GIIN Impact Investor Survey paints a clear picture: despite global challenges, the impact investing market continues to grow. Assets Under Management (AUM) in impact investing have increased at a compound annual growth rate of 21% over the past six years, with an 11% increase in the last year alone—demonstrating sustained confidence in the market.
Investors are directing capital toward sectors where it is most needed, including inclusive financial services, healthcare, housing, and clean energy. These investments are generating meaningful outcomes, particularly for people with lower incomes and limited access to essential services. Beyond this steady growth, signs of further momentum are emerging: most survey respondents expect to increase investments in climate solutions, water and sanitation, and sustainable agriculture in the coming years.
These decisions are not driven by market dynamics alone. Many investors are motivated by mission alignment, environmental goals, and social progress. Increasingly, they are allocating capital to generate measurable social and environmental benefits while achieving solid financial returns—often outperforming traditional asset classes.
